What a week of news! It feels like civil war is closer than ever in the US, and on the other side of the world here in Asia Pacific, slowly, slowly, some semblance of normality is coming back.
However, none of us are being reckless or taking it for granted, and I have to say, it’s good living in a region where everyone does takes the threat of a pandemic seriously. Did you see that Korea closed its schools again?
I personally feel like this is all a long way from over, and as my family finish our 11th week in quarantine (our choice), we have ventured out into the world a couple of times, but it’s so depressing, I just want to stay home until this is all resolved.
So many questions remain unanswered, but that is the nature of a pandemic and the speed science can work at to get those answers we all so desperately need. Patience is definitely what is needed right now, and trust in science.
One thing I noticed about self-isolating this week – the whole family felt really exhausted. You know when you get so tired your eyes itch and your body is sluggish? That sort of exhaustion, and I think it’s another aspect of this journey we’re all on – the relentlessness of it. It takes a toll in different ways. Let me know if you can relate?
Sometimes we’re up, sometimes we’re down, and of course, there are many people that are going much further down, really struggling with this time. I am sending a big virtual hug for anyone in this space. It’s a really tough time!
A tip for dealing with an Infodemic
One tip I want to give everyone to deal with the enormous amount of information circulating. Read/watch with the lens of history over the top of what you’re consuming. I know it all can feel incredibly overwhelming, but putting this lens on top of it, helps to determine what really matters.
Therefore, anything you take on board, ask yourself – will this be part of the story when we reflect back on this time in the future? Sometimes just doing this helps to identify the information that really matters. The day-to-day news is not all going to make it into the cut of our future reflections.
This approach helps you to not get so caught up in every piece of information doing the rounds. We need to focus on what is most important, because, there is a LOT of distraction from the core truth today. I hope this tip is useful.
As always, I’m sharing a selection of articles and videos I’ve been reading/watching, in the hope it helps you navigate this Infodemic. There’s a lot going on around the world and some of it is extremely alarming. But we can overcome together. We can.
So here it is, without opinion. Scan through and select one or read them all! Sometimes just reading the headlines can give you the context of this time.
