#249 Weekend Reads – do the tech broligarchs have YOU in their future plans?

I’ve spoken regularly about the Nerd Reich or the Tech Broligarchs here and on my show. Once I even put myself in their shoes (it wasn’t a pleasant experience) and asked – what would they do to save humanity? Based on their behaviour and decisions so far, allowing for millions or billions to die would have to be on the agenda, and so would eugenics, white supremacy, fascism, and the list goes on. Reading part four in the Byline Times ‘Special Investigation & The Dangers of Big Tech,’ it seems my imagination was pretty close – How Epstein Channelled Race Science and ‘Climate Culling’ Into Silicon Valley’s AI Elite – Byline Times.

Exhibit A: Elon Musk is on a racist posting spree again | The Verge.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we cannot allow a failure of imagination to happen now. Believe the worst and let’s focus on building an alternative that serves humanity. I know this group of people believe in this vision and think it’s the only possible path forward, but it is NOT the only path open to us. I actually took great heart from this story of the Caral civilization – “Archaeologists Discover 3,800-Year-Old Peace City”: Ancient Peruvian Civilization Built Zero Weapons While Thriving Through Climate Change Without Any Warfare.

When you spend time understanding what the technofascists are up to, it helps make sense of the news, including the little beauty that dropped today. You know, where the US Government gave the world a big fat middle finger?

I’m talking about the New National Security Strategy (obvs) and pretty much everything most decent humans care about is on that list. Suffice to say, they are pushing very hard towards a New World Order. Ironic, isn’t it? They have been telling us for years to be fearful of the leftist agenda for a New World Order, but it was never coming from that direction. This plan has been in motion for a VERY long time, and here we are.

The best overview is from the great Heather Cox Richardson – December 5, 2025 – by Heather Cox Richardson.

There’s also a good overview here Ten Jolting Takeaways from Trump’s New National Security Strategy.

In other news, this little beauty from the Murdoch-owned WSJ also makes more sense within the context of the New National Security Strategy – Make Money Not War: Trump’s Real Plan for Peace in Ukraine – WSJ.

And of course, getting back to the techbros AI Will Only Intensify Climate Change. The Tech Moguls Don’t Care. | The Nation.

Even the Buddhists are becoming extremists, sheesh – The dangerous rise of Buddhist extremism: ‘Attaining nirvana can wait’ | Sri Lanka | The Guardian.

And of course, in Asia we witnessed catastrophic events, with more than 1,750 reported to have died, but hundreds remain missing. Check out this take on what happened – From the Philippines to Sri Lanka, how a cocktail of rogue storms and climate chaos unleashed deadly flooding across Asia | CNN.

But the Nerd Reich don’t care right, it’s all part of the plan – this is a sacrifice zone! Besides, there are just too many of us they claim.

Then again, maybe we can rethink this. There are about 3,000 billionaires globally, and they emit the equivalent of five billion people combined through their lifestyle, investments and political influence, so maybe we should be focusing on getting rid of them? Good idea?

Some good news

This is great news – New recycling tech recovers nearly pure nickel and cobalt from old EV batteries.

My content and my friends

It was an absolute delight to have Monica Piccinini, a freelance journalist focused on environmental, health and human rights issues, on The Sh*t Show this week. We mainly focused on her take-aways from the UK national emergency briefing, which discussed the implications of the planetary crisis on health, food, national security and the economy. This information is relevant globally.

Earlier in the week, I had the great privilege of interviewing the Earth Systems Nerd, Jan Umsonst. A terrific person with a super-sized brain, this is a wide-ranging conversation on what is going on right across the climate system and what we can expect next, with a focus on the Global South. Do have a listen. It’s important.

Dig into the news

As always, there’s plenty more to read, listen to or watch, so do click through to the reads at the image below, and a reminder, this platform has articles going back weeks, so have a scan and read/watch/listen to whatever jumps out at you.

Let me know what caught your attention? Or share with me what has your attention now? There’s a lot going on, which means none of us can cover everything. Besides, it’s always great to get feedback so I know I’m delivering something of value.

Cheers

The Sh*t Show

The Sh*t Show is a Livestream happening every Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko, Richard Busellato and Joe Augustin, as well as special guests, discuss the world’s most pressing issues across all angles of the polycrisis, working to make sense of the extremely challenging and complex times we are all going through, plus what we can do about it. Help us move the needle so we can change the name of the show to something more genteel when (or if) it is no longer a sh*t show.
