Weekend Reads

#255 Weekend Reads – happy 66th birthday Andrew

It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, arrested on his 66th birthday (he got a gift), and while I am waiting for someone, ANYONE (male), to be arrested for violently raping, trafficking, or torturing women and girls, it reminded me that Al Capone finally got done for tax evasion. The day is coming. The people behind this violence will be held to account, if the pressure never stops. That’s critical.

However, apparently MAGA isn’t too interested in consequences if it means their beloved Trump is one of them. Completely bizarre. Read all about it here: MAGA’s Reaction to the Epstein Files Reveals Total Moral Collapse | The Nation.

Of course, the US Supreme Court voting that Trump’s tariffs are illegal is the big news right now, and there will be many opinions on that news story, but it appears the President had a tantrum – Trump lashes out at Supreme Court justices over tariffs ruling .

However, my eye is on Iran. Honestly, if the US goes to war against Iran, we are in World War Three. The big worry in the US, for now, is the impact on the pocket: A US attack on Iran could send oil prices surging at precarious time for Trump | CNN Business.

At least the Brits appreciate the rule of law – Diego Garcia: Britain blocking use of air bases Trump says would be needed for strikes on Iran, UK media report | CNN.

A classic case of irony – Pentagon aggressively lobbies EU against Buy European weapons push – POLITICO.

And any form of Zionism sucks: US envoy suggests it would be ‘fine’ if Israel expands across Middle East | Israel-Palestine conflict News | Al Jazeera.

But don’t worry, at least our information integrity is strong… not! Swarms of AI bots can sway people’s beliefs – threatening democracy.

Talking about information integrity, this is a MUST read – Dr. Mann, We Read Science Under Siege. This Website Is What You’re Warning About. — Unreplug.

That’s enough for this week. I’ve got my head down developing a new workshop on the polycrisis, which I’m delivering for the first time this Monday. I can definitely say I’m both excited and nervous as hell about delivering it, but I’ll never stop trying to make a difference in this world. I do everything I do for my boys, and your kids, and all people without a voice, as well as every living being in the natural world. Wish me luck and see you next week.

Dig into the news

The world news page is updated daily, so check in whenever it suits you. It covers news and thought leadership across all issues relevant to the polycrisis, as well as some light stuff, because we can’t be serious all the time. To get to the news, click through on the image below, and a reminder, this goes back weeks, so have a scan and read/watch/listen to whatever jumps out at you.

Let me know what caught your attention? Or share with me what has your attention now? There’s a lot going on, which means none of us can cover everything. Besides, it’s always great to get feedback so I know I’m delivering something of value.

Cheers

Andrea

The Sh*t Show – back next Friday, 27th February

The Sh*t Show is a Livestream happening every Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko, Richard Busellato and Joe Augustin, as well as special guests, discuss the world’s most pressing issues across all angles of the polycrisis, working to make sense of the extremely challenging and complex times we are all going through, plus what we can do about it. Help us move the needle so we can change the name of the show to something more genteel when (or if) it is no longer a sh*t show.
