#30 Weekend reads – how’s your spirit this week?

Can you believe it, 30 weeks of my weekend reads and I want to thank everyone who has told me they value it, as well as the people who are regularly sharing amazing content. I am always acknowledging the great content sharers too, because I value them in my life immensely. I hope you have great content sharers in yours.

This last week, someone special said to me: my spirit is very low this week. It’s such a heartbreaking thing to hear, but as she said it, I realized that yes, my spirit has been pretty low too. It is such a grueling time for the world to be going through together, and while many are suffering so much more at this time, we are all suffering in our own way.

So please, check in with your community. Ask people how they’re doing? Do something small that will delight someone. Send flowers, a card, a bottle of wine or a thoughtful gift to someone who is lonely – let them know you’re thinking of them. Call people you care about. Set up Zoom parties. Speak to someone if you know they’re really struggling.

Let’s get in tune with each other. Suicide rates always increase at this time of year, but with Covid in the mix, it’s certain to be even higher. Spirits are low everywhere. Let’s help each other through.

On another note, it’s Black Friday, in case you missed it, but can I please ask a favour? Can we understand that these sorts of sales fiestas are buying into mass consumerism, and that mindset is destroying our planet. Sure get something if you absolutely need it, but if you don’t, please help us save the planet and don’t buy unnecessarily. We have to change our ways, because our children’s future is on the line. It is beyond time we started thinking about the impact of events like this and our willingness to buy into it.

Charity

With the festive season around the corner, there are so many in need. Dig deep if you can and donate locally – money, gifts, time. If got some cash? Please donate where it makes sense to you, or to the UN Refugee Program and World Food Program. There is so much need out in the world. Let’s pull together.
