#193 Weekend Reads – the ugliness of politics is wearing, so wearing

I don’t know about you, but the ugly rhetoric of politics is really starting to wear me down and of course, with a woman of colour entering the US Presidential race, it was always going to get uglier. However, recently, Trump has gone to a new level and it’s nothing short of disgusting. No question politics has always been ugly, but in the last decade, it’s gone well and truly down the (in Trump’s words) shithole.

Check out this piece for more on recent events: Trump Keeps Turning Up the Dial on Vulgarity. Will He Alienate the Voters He Needs? – The New York Times

Or watch this – Anderson Cooper doesn’t hold back

And of course, beyond politics, understanding how this ugliness and rage is growing around the world, destroying our social cohesion, is equally important to understand. I recommend this article The New Fascism from Prospect Magazine to get an understanding of this is happening.

We’ve got to get a handle on this, and we’ve got to work hard to get off this destructive path, because the hateful rhetoric is tearing us all apart, and we need to come together.
