Social leadership for beginners - The Digital Conversationalist

For a number of years I’ve been working with the world’s largest companies to help executive leadership teams and the wider employees embrace a social leadership mindset. It is a privilege and a joy to do this. It’s not work, it’s love.

However, over the years, I found myself teaching the same content year after year after year, and every time I show up, the vast majority of employees have not even started to own their voice, let alone having updated profiles!

At this moment of crisis for the world, and the massive uncertainty ahead, it has never been more important to embrace your voice on the relevant social channels for your profession.

I appreciate that many do not want to participate because they do not like how most are taking part. I get that. My message is, if enough of us participate in a meaningful way – with real meaning, purpose and intention behind what we share – we change how social media is being used.

The more good people that stand up, the more chance we to drown out the negatives too.

The other continual challenge is the belief of: why would anyone care what I have to say? This is a huge block for many. Every single person on this planet has a unique perspective based on the life they’ve lived and the experiences gained. Every single person!!

And besides, there are big ways you can participate, and small ways. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, but having a minimal presence is critical for careers. LinkedIn especially.

I published the book ‘18 Steps to an All-Star LinkedIn Profile’ just as the global pandemic hit everywhere. Top tip, not a good time to publish a book 😊. The content in this book is what I’ve been giving away to workshop attendees for years and I decided to make it more widely available by publishing it. Check out the reviews. It’s simple, step-by-step stuff intentionally. I just want people to get started!

I’m always thinking how can I help more people? So recently, I decided to start a Playlist on my YouTube channel AndreaTEdwards (please follow me, my children laugh at my following numbers) and it’s called Second Nature Social.

This is me going back to the beginning – talking about things that are second nature to anyone who is active on social media – and I am going through it step-by-step, to help you look and sound fabulous on social media.

I start with an emphasis on LinkedIn, but over time, I’ll talk about other channels too.

If you know anyone at the start of this journey, pass them the link. If you know anyone who has recently lost their job, pass them the link.

I just want to help people to embrace this opportunity, because it will help them in their quest for work, they will feel more empowered in the job they already have, AND if enough good people get louder on social media, we might be able to collectively create the future we want for the world. That’s always been my big goal.

If you are a noob (a word my children taught me) when it comes to professional participation on social media, take a look and let me know if there is anything you want me to cover. Nothing is off limits. Nothing. I want to help people start, because once you unlock your voice, beautiful things can and will happen. It certainly transformed my life.
